Plan the trip to the Riverfront stop and the trip home as two separate journeys. A car-free KC Current matchday can work well when your hotel, the streetcar and the final walk fit your group's needs. Use current stadium instructions rather than an older shuttle map.
Start with the current stadium route
CPKC Stadium's transportation page now directs streetcar riders to the Riverfront stop and describes additional vehicles and extended service during KC Current home matches. The streetcar connection is free, with a walk from the stop to the stadium. Check the current match instructions and route notices instead of assuming service timing is identical for every event.
Your journey still includes getting to the boarding stop, waiting, riding, the approach to the correct gate and entry checks. A short final walk is not the total travel time from your room. Give each step its own allowance, especially if you want to eat or visit the team store before kickoff.
Choose a hotel by its usable route
Mark the hotel entrance and a convenient streetcar stop, then look at the route between them. Ask about crossings, slopes and any access requirements. “Near transit” can mean different things on a booking page. Check the route you would actually use after dark or in poor weather, as well as the pleasant-looking outbound walk.
Compare the full stay cost using our downtown-versus-suburbs worksheet. A room farther from the route may still be a good choice, but include its connecting rides rather than treating the streetcar's fare as the whole matchday transport budget.
Use this matchday order
- Before leaving: check the ticket, gate information, stadium notices and streetcar alerts.
- Pack for entry: read the stadium A–Z guide for the current bag and prohibited-item policies.
- Board with time to spare: follow the current route information for travel toward Riverfront.
- Approach your gate: allow for the walk and security rather than aiming to reach the stop at kickoff.
- After the match: follow staff directions and reassess crowding before choosing the return option.
If you travel with children, agree on a meeting point and keep the group together while boarding. If a mobility device or reduced walking stamina affects the journey, consult the stadium's accessibility information and ask about the specific gate approach. Do not infer the accessibility of the entire trip from the transit vehicle alone.
Have a return option before the final whistle
Expect many people to leave at the same time. Allow room in the schedule for a wait rather than promising a timed dinner or connection immediately afterward. Save your hotel address and identify the stadium's designated rideshare arrangement in case you choose a paid alternative. A car requested to an arbitrary gate may not be able to collect you there.
For a late flight arrival before the match weekend, read our MCI first-night decision guide. Getting from the airport and getting to the stadium are different transport problems; solve both before choosing a room.
Car-free matchday questions
Should I follow a shuttle guide from an earlier season?
Use the stadium's current transportation page and match-specific notices. The Riverfront streetcar connection changes how visitors should plan this trip.
Does extra matchday service guarantee no waiting?
No. Build in time for demand, boarding, entry and the post-match crowd. A published service plan is not a guaranteed door-to-gate journey time.
